Here’s Who Won Last Night At The 2017 Golden Globes

Welp, that settles it: the Oscars will be a showdown between MOONLIGHT and LA LA LAND.

Last night, the 2017 Golden Globes made it all but official: this year's Oscars race will probably be a battle between Barry Jenkins' Moonlight and Damien Chazelle's La La Land.

The former won the Golden Globe for Best Picture (Drama), while the latter took home the award for Best Picture (Musical or Comedy). This was something of a foregone conclusion: La La Land was all but guaranteed to take home the big prize in "Musical or Comedy", but "Drama" was absolutely a showdown between Moonlight and Kenneth Lonergan's Manchester By The Sea. Having seen all three of these films, I'm comfortable with how things turned out.

Elsewhere, there were surprises (Isabelle Huppert winning Best Actress for Elle) and snubs (Moonlight's Mahershala Ali losing Best Supporting Actor to Nocturnal Animals' Aaron Taylor Johnson), regrettable comedy bits (Jimmy Fallon brought presenter Eddie Redmayne onstage via Cypress Hill parody, and it was precisely as nightmarish as that sounds), emotional speeches (by now, you've probably heard about Meryl Streep taking Trump to the woodshed) and wacky audience hijinks (Ryan Reynolds and Andrew Garfield made out while Ryan Gosling took the stage to collect his Best Actor Golden Globe). All things considered, it was a fairly standard Golden Globes ceremony.
