This New RINGS Clip Plays A Lot Like RINGS ON A PLANE

In which Samara makes the skies a little less friendly.

As you know - because you're presumably already camped outside your local theater, positively feverish with anticipation - there's a new The Ring movie arriving this weekend. Yeah, that The Ring, the one with the unwashed little ghost girl who kills people through wet television sets. I know, I was surprised, too.

Anyway, this one's called Rings, and hopes to reboot the long-dormant and once-mighty (key word: "once") franchise by introducing us to a fresh pair of characters (vividly referred to in the official plot synopsis as "a young woman and her boyfriend") and an exciting new branch of Ring mythology.

It will also feature the following scene, which feels like it comes from a much campier version of this movie called Rings On A Plane.

Woof.

If you're still curious, here's the official plot synopsis in full:

"A new chapter in the beloved RING horror franchise. A young woman becomes worried about her boyfriend when he explores a dark subculture surrounding a mysterious videotape said to kill the watcher seven days after he has viewed it. She sacrifices herself to save her boyfriend and in doing so makes a horrifying discovery: there is a “movie within the movie” that no one has ever seen before."

I don't know how that's going to work ("a movie within the movie", did you say?), but I also stopped being curious halfway through writing this sentence. My interest in this franchise ran out about twenty minutes into The Ring Two, and that was over a decade a go. To borrow a phrase from another, presumably-better horror film: sometimes dead is better, Rings

But that's just me. If this is your thing, Rings hits theaters this Friday.
