Sam Worthington Says AVATAR 2 Will Be About Family

In which Jai Courtney 1.0 provides us with some vague AVATAR 2 plot details.

In a new interview with We Got This Covered, Avatar star Sam Worthington drops a few vague plot details about what we can expect from James Cameron's forthcoming parade of sequels.

Says Worthington:

“They’re going to be shooting concurrently. The plan is to have some time in between, I think, but these things are always ambiguous until they start. We’re still set to start in the summer, though. James needed time to perfect the scripts. Whenever he says jump I go because he’s the man. I’ve read all the scripts, they’re great. This is going to be Jake eight years later, and he’s got a family now. This film is going to be like nothing you’ve ever seen. The world is bigger than the first one, but essentially, it’s a movie about family. Jake will still have that essence of a kid seeing the world for the first time, but he’s been living in the world for a while now, so what’s this world he’s seeing now for the first time? The film will explore that within this family dynamic.”

So, granted, there's not too much to go on here. But then again, I think this is the first detail of any kind we've heard about the plot of Avatar 2. Jake's got a family now? He's been living on Pandora for a while but still has the "essence of a kid seeing the world for the first time"? Perhaps that ties into a previous rumor we heard, which implied that a good portion of Avatar 2 would take place underwater (note: it's been years since that rumor made the rounds, so no promises that there's any validity to it).

Also of note: Worthington says this thing's going in front of cameras this summer, so we've probably got a ton of Avatar news headed our way starting about...oh, a year from now? We'll keep you informed as those updates roll in. In the meantime, please feel free to share your favorite Avatar memories in the comments below. Don't hold back, either. Share all of them.
