Drew Goddard Will Direct BAD TIMES AT THE EL ROYALE For Fox
Exciting news, via The Hollywood Reporter:
Fox has picked up Bad Times at the El Royale, a spec script from The Martian screenwriter Drew Goddard. He is attached to also direct the project and produce it.
Details are being kept secret, but sources say it is a contained thriller with either sci-fi or horror elements.
Goddard - whose genre bonafides are virtually unassailable after his work on Cabin In The Woods, The Martian, and World War Z - is getting back behind the camera, and he's doing it with a project that'll either lean towards horror or sci-fi. Bonus points: Bad Times At The El Royale is one helluva title.
There's also this fun fact:
Not only is the logline under a veil of secrecy, but the whole process of selling it was hush-hush as well. The script went only to the top studio execs, bypassing the normal reading process. And to view the script, potential buyers had to read it off of a tablet and then return it to the courier when done.
Well. Now we're very intrigued. Here's hoping that Goddard's next is as mindbending and clever as Cabin In The Woods was. We could use more of that sorta thing.
Stay tuned for updates on Bad Times At The El Royale as they become available. We'll be keeping a close eye on this (and are curious to know more, if anyone happens to know anything) in the meantime.
