New ANNABELLE: CREATION Trailer Extends The CONJURING Shared Universe
The first trailer for Annabelle: Creation (I suppose we should be happy they didn't call it Annabelle: Origins) has arrived, and it's very upfront about the fact that it's just the latest entry "in The Conjuring universe". Even says it on the poster!
"Universe" seems a little highfalutin for what's basically just a growing series of quick-n-dirty Conjuring spin-offs, but whatever. Shared universes are all the rage these days, so this probably won't be the last time we see this kind of thing.
Here's the trailer.
Directed by Lights Out's David F. Sandberg, Annabelle: Creation looks well-shot and has an interesting cast (Miranda Otto and Anthony LaPaglia?), but longtime BMD readers will know this isn't the real Annabelle backstory. For that, you'll want to head over to this page, which is - believe it or not - still one of the most-read posts ever to appear on the site.
Here's the story Annabelle: Creation plans to tell:
In Annabelle: Creation, several years after the tragic death of their little girl, a dollmaker and his wife welcome a nun and several girls from a shuttered orphanage into their home, soon becoming the target of the dollmaker’s possessed creation, Annabelle.
Annabelle: Creation opens on August 11th. You guys gonna check it out or what?
