It’s Official: THE X-FILES Is Coming Back For An Eleventh Season

10 new episodes will hit during the 2017-2018 season.

Well, it's been rumored for some time, but now it's official (via TV Guide):

Fox has ordered an eleventh season of the sci-fi hit The X-Files, promising 10 new episodes to air during the 2017-2018 season. And to put your mind at ease, yes, David Duchovny and Gillian Anderson are both returning to reprise their roles as Agent Fox Mulder and Agent Dana Scully, and creator Chris Carter will return as well.

Last year, The X-Files returned for an abbreviated tenth season, and the results were...well, that depends on who you ask. Either you thought the new batch of episodes were mixed or bad; as far as I can recall, no one was over the moon with all of them (if I remember correctly, those first few episodes were particularly rough).

In addition to announcing the show's return, Fox also dropped the following promo image:

So, that's pretty cool, I guess.

Fox is on a roll with these revived series, having also recently brought back Prison Break and 24. An eleventh season of The X-Files has been rumored for some time, so it's not entirely shocking to hear that it's all been finalized. Here's hoping this new batch of episodes unfold with a little more consistency than the Event Series episodes did!
