Daniel Radcliffe Will Get Ultraviolent In GUNS AKIMBO

In which SWISS ARMY MAN teams up with the director of DEATHGASM.

Watching Daniel Radcliffe's career unfold in the wake of his iconic turn in the Harry Potter franchise has been an absolute treat, hasn't it? Rather than gunning for safe projects that might turn him into an even more bankable movie star, Radcliffe has opted for one interesting role after another: Horns, Swiss Army Man, Imperium, Kill Your Darlings. More than anything, Radcliffe seems drawn to weird indies rather than would-be blockbusters. It's great.

And now he's taking on another potentially weird gig. Says Variety:

Harry Potter star Daniel Radcliffe has signed up to star in action comedy Guns Akimbo, which Altitude Films and Occupant Entertainment will introduce to buyers at Cannes.

The film, currently in pre-production, will be directed by Jason Lei Howden, whose debut feature, Deathgasm, premiered in 2015 at SXSW."

Oh, say word? What's it about?

"Radcliffe...will play lead character Miles, an ordinary guy who suddenly finds himself forced to fight a gladiator-like battle for a dark website that streams the violence for viewers. Miles must fight heavily armed Nix and also save his kidnapped ex-girlfriend."

We're not quite sure who "Nix" is in that sentence, but - given the fact that Radcliffe's character has been forced into gladiatorial combat in order to save his girlfriend (and, y'know, himself) - we're willing to bet it's a most unpleasant dude. And with Howden at the helm, we're also willing to bet Guns Akimbo will be gleefully violent. We're in.

Nothing further to report at this time, but we're definitely intrigued. Stay tuned for more on Guns Akimbo as it becomes available.
