NEON And VICE Team Up To Distribute Harmony Korine’s THE BEACH BUM

Matthew McConaughey will headline the next film from the director of SPRING BREAKERS.

Disclosure: Tim League owns a portion of NEON as well as Birth.Movies.Death.

Back in February, we were excited to learn that Matthew McConaughey had signed on to headline The Beach Bum, the next film from Spring Breakers director Harmony Korine. And now we've got even more reason to be excited:

"NEON and VICE have pre-bought U.S. rights to one of the early Cannes buzz pre-buy titles, the Harmony Korine-directed The Beach Bum.  A followup to Korine’s sleeper Spring Breakers, the film will star Oscar winner Matthew McConaughey and is set to begin production this fall with a theatrical release planned for 2018. Pic is an irreverent comedy that follows the misadventures of Moondog (McConaughey), a rebellious and lovable rogue who lives life large."

That's Deadline breaking the news that our friends at NEON have joined forces with VICE Land to distribute The Beach Bum here in the States. It's another unique acquisition for both parties, and feels right in line with the titles they've released thus far.

And how 'bout that plot? An irreverent comedy following "the misadventures of...a rebellious and lovable rogue who lives life large"? One's almost tempted to say The Beach Bum sounds like it'll find Harmony Korine in a kinder, gentler mode...but my suspicion is that this one'll be a bit more scandalous than Deadline's description implies. We are there for it.

Stay tuned for more on The Beach Bum as it becomes available. It arrives in theaters next year.
