New Trailer For THE HITMAN’S BODYGUARD Is Just What The Doctor Ordered

It's a red-band trailer, though, so plan accordingly.

Prepare yourselves for a blistering Hot Take™: sometimes, a B-grade action comedy starring Ryan Reynolds and Samuel L. Jackson as two mismatched assassins who shout, swear and shoot at each other is all you want. And these days, that's precisely the sort of foolishness I'm craving.

Yes, The Hitman's Bodyguard (which has a new red-band trailer, embedded below) is going to be big and dumb and loud and probably fifteen minutes too long, but who cares? I watch this trailer and I think, "Yup, that is just what the doctor ordered."

Your mileage may vary.

Oh, I will totally watch this movie. I'm into the chemistry between Reynolds and Jackson, the action looks better-than-decent, you've got Gary Oldman in full-blown villain mode...this has Empty Calorie Summer Movie written all over it, and we are there for it.

In case the trailer above wasn't clear, here's a plot synopsis:

The world's top protection agent is called upon to guard the life of his mortal enemy, one of the world's most notorious hit men. The relentless bodyguard and manipulative assassin have been on the opposite end of the bullet for years and are thrown together for a wildly outrageous 24 hours. During their journey from England to the Hague, they encounter high-speed car chases, outlandish boat escapades and a merciless Eastern European dictator who is out for blood.

"Outlandish boat escapades", did you say? Why, that calls to mind XXX 3: Return Of Xander Cage, another big-ass, trashy movie I inexplicably fell in love with earlier this year. Well done, plot synopsis. You've really learned how to ring my bells. How about the rest of you? Are you feeling the same soft spot for this that I am, or have I lost my mind? The Hitman's Bodyguard arrives on August 18th.
