M. Night Shyamalan’s TALES FROM THE CRYPT Is Officially Dead

In a very unfortunate turn of events, it appears that M. Night Shyamalan's long-gestating Tales From The Crypt reboot - long positioned as the anchor for a new "horror block" being put together by the network - has officially flatlined. Cause of death: complicated rights issues.

Here's TNT president Kevin Reilly, speaking to Deadline on the matter:

“That one got really caught up in a complete legal mess unfortunately with a very complicated underlying rights structure. We lost so much time, so I said, ‘Look, I’m not waiting around four years for this thing’. Maybe that will come back around but in the meantime, Ridley Scott had come up, who has so much creative enthusiasm.”

"What's that? Ridley Scott, did you say?"

Yes, he did. According to Reilly, the horror block TNT was building around Tales From The Crypt is being sidelined in favor of a more sci-fi-oriented programming block, one which will now be anchored by some type of Ridley Scott-produced anthology series. Nothing further's known about that series at this time, but you can certainly consider us intrigued.

Anyway, it's a damn shame the rights issues on Tales From The Crypt couldn't be worked out. Shyamalan's in the midst of one helluva comeback, and it would've been great to see that show back on the air with him pulling the strings. Mourn the loss of what could have been in the space below.
