In Which Tom Cruise Reveals The Title Of The TOP GUN Sequel

On the plus side, they're bringing back TOP GUN's Harold Faltermeyer score.

In a new interview with Access Hollywood, The Mummy star Tom Cruise finally reveals the title of the mildly-anticipated sequel to 1986's Top Gun. Before you watch the clip below - where the dramatic reveal occurs - see if you can guess what it is.

No, not Top Gun 2. Cruise says he didn't want a number in the title. But you're close! The actual title is about that imaginative.

That's right, the Top Gun sequel is called Top Gun: Maverick. Okay.

In more exciting news, Cruise mentions they're bringing back Harold Faltermeyer's original score (!!!), and adds:

“Aviators are back, the need for speed. We’re going to have big, fast machines. It’s going to be a competition film, like the first one…but a progression for Maverick.”

My guess is that Maverick (Tom Cruise) will be going up against another, younger, even-more-mavericky pilot, and the two will be locked into a deadly competition to see who is the most maverick of them all. Why they didn't just call the film Maverick is beyond me, but who am I to judge Tom Cruise?

We don't know much more about Top Gun: Maverick at this time, but rest assured we'll keep you informed as further updates roll in. While we're waiting: are you guys legitimately excited for this? I'm having trouble working up the enthusiasm, and I say that as a die-hard Tom Cruise enthusiast. Sound off in the comments below.
