ATX Television Festival: A NORTHERN EXPOSURE Revival?
An eagerly anticipated reunion of cast members from Northern Exposure garnered more than just reminiscences for the show - although there was certainly plenty of that! Talk turned to the chances of a revival and, get this: if it were up to the cast, they'd be into it! Cynthia Geary, who played Miss Northwest Passage Shelly Tambo, revealed that several of the actors (specifically Rob Morrow and Darren Burrows, who played Joel Fleischman and Ed Chigliak, respectively) are trying to make it happen. Janine Turner even implored us all to start a letter campaign. The line begins behind me, you guys.
Northern Exposure is a show that's not often seen these days: that perfect mix of wise and wry, but wide-eyed and hopeful. It's, sadly, wholly unavailable on any streaming platform right now, but hopefully if revival talk comes to fruition, streaming of the old episodes would soon follow. This panel was only made better by showing one of the most popular episodes, the season one finale "Aurora Borealis: A Fairy Tale for Grown-Ups," in which Adam Arkin guest stars as a loner living in the mountains that is a perfect encapsulation of everything good about this series: quirky, at times even downright weird, but with a heart that is sorely needed right now. On second thought, I don't think I can wait for the chance they might stream it. If you'll excuse me, I need to order the DVDs, stat. Party at my house - you bring the moose burgers.
