FIRST MAN Adds Jason Clarke As Astronaut Ed White

A NASA history deep-cut.

"I'm coming back in, and it's the saddest moment of my life."

How detailed will Damien Chazelle’s Neil Armstrong biopic be? Well, after adding Corey Stoll as Buzz Aldrin and Kyle Chandler as Mercury Seven astronaut Deke Slayton, First Man has now cast Dawn of the Planet of the Apes and Zero Dark Thirty star Jason Clarke as Edward White, the first American space-walker.

The film covers the nine years leading up to Apollo 11, and since White’s historic walk took place in 1965, there’s a good chance we’ll see it re-created on screen. More pertinent, however, is the fact that White perished along with Gus Grissom and Roger Chaffee during a launch test for the first manned Apollo mission. A much more tragic distinction that’s just as likely to make it to the screen, especially if this is a story about all that was sacrificed on the way to the Moon.

First Man arrives October 12th of next year, and you can be damn sure it’ll be worth keeping an eye on.
