Please Enjoy This Heartwarming New Red-Band Trailer For LEATHERFACE

In which the directors of INSIDE take on Texas' most iconic slasher.

If you're anything like me, you were dimly aware that a new Texas Chain Saw Massacre movie was in the works, but - because a new Texas Chain Saw Massacre movie always seems to be in the works - you haven't been paying close attention.

Please allow this red-band trailer for Leatherface to put you back on track.

Just to clear up any confusion: we've already seen a Leatherface: Origins-style movie (that'd be 2006's The Texas Chainsaw Massacre: The Beginning), but that one was a prequel to the 2003 Platinum Dunes reboot. Leatherface is a prequel to the original Texas Chain Saw Massacre, and its plot offers something of a whodunnit: the plot revolves around a quartet of escaped mental patients who kidnap a nurse and hit the road with a revenge-minded Texas lawman in pursuit. The game is figuring out which one of them will grow up to become Leatherface. That's an interesting take, I guess.

On the real: this writer probably wouldn't be as hyped about Leatherface were it not for the fact that it's been directed by Julien Maury and Alexandre Bustillo, the absolute madmen who made Inside and Among The Living (fun fact from our own Jacob Knight: Leatherface and Among The Living share a Director of Photography in Antoine Sanier). That's worth getting excited about, even if another Leatherface origin story raises all kinds of red flags.

According to Wikipedia, Leatherface will hit DirecTV on September 21st "before receiving a wider release on Video on demand and limited theaters, simultaneously, in North America on October 20, 2017." Do with that information what you will, and stay tuned for more on Leatherface as we get closer to that September 21st release date.
