Matt Damon Is Very, Very Angry In The First SUBURBICON Trailer

As has been proven time and time again, George Clooney and the Coen Brothers are two great tastes that go great together. Their team efforts have yielded all manner of interesting projects, but - typically-speaking - they've involved Clooney in front of the camera. 

Not this time! With Suburbicon, you've got Clooney directing a Coen Bros. script, and the results look...well, interesting, to say the least.

So, lots to unpack here. First, let's get the official plot synopsis out of the way (because if you're anything like me, some of the details may seem a bit fuzzy):

"Suburbicon is a peaceful, idyllic suburban community with affordable homes and manicured lawns… the perfect place to raise a family, and in the summer of 1959, the Lodge family is doing just that. But the tranquil surface masks a disturbing reality, as husband and father Gardner Lodge (Matt Damon) must navigate the town’s dark underbelly of betrayal, deceit, and violence. This is a tale of very flawed people making very bad choices."

Bad choices, indeed! Damon's Gardner Lodge seems to be (in the great Coen tradition) in way over his head, and he's exceptionally angry about it! Damon (in the great Damon tradition) looks to be giving this one his all, and he's joined by one helluva supporting cast, including Julianne Moore, Oscar Isaac, and Glenn Fleshler (known in some nefarious circles as The Yellow King). This thing's stacked with talent!

Over at The Playlist, they've got a great quote from Clooney talking about his approach to the film:

"There are some similar themes to Fargo and Burn After Reading. Hapless characters making really bad decisions. The original script took place in the 1980s and didn’t have the Mayer family as neighbors so it was more of a comedy-thriller. We (Clooney and producing partner Grant Heslov) thought we’d like to make something a little less funny and a lot angrier. It seems like a good time for a film that feels angry.”

It does, indeed, and we are there for it. Suburbicon opens on October 27th. Y'all gonna turn out for it or what?
