Claire Foy To Become Fede Alvarez’s Lisbeth Salander For GIRL IN THE SPIDER’S WEB
David Fincher’s Girl With the Dragon Tattoo adaptation was divisive amongst even his most hardcore fans, but what could be universally agreed upon was Rooney Mara’s take on Lisbeth Salander being downright perfect. Now that the auteur and his cast have moved on, and Fede Alvarez (Don’t Breathe) has stepped in to follow up that financial misfire with The Girl in the Spider’s Web, he’s bringing a new iteration of the punky computer hacker with him.
This new Lisbeth will be played by Claire Foy, who won a Golden Globe and SAG Award for her role as Queen Elizabeth II in Netflix’s The Crown. To be honest, she definitely looks the part, and the chops are there to pull this one off. Should be fun to watch her slip into that black leather jacket.
The Girl In the Spider’s Web will be written by Steven Knight (Locke, Dirty Pretty Things), with an assist from Alvarez and Jay Basu. It’ll be the first time we see one of David Lagercrantz’s bestselling potboilers be adapted into an English-language picture on its first go round. Hopefully, Alvarez can bring his typical visual slickness, and leave some of the visceral nastiness that punctuated Don’t Breathe and his Evil Dead remake behind (but we’re not counting on it).
