Reset The Doomsday Clock: HBO Orders WATCHMEN Pilot From Damon Lindelof

Sorry, Zack Snyder.

Earlier this week, Damon Lindelof (Lost, Prometheus, The Leftovers) teased that he was working on a Watchmen adaptation via a cryptic Instagram post:

Day One.

Turns out fans of Alan Moore and Dave Gibbons’ landmark comic series had reason to be anxious, as HBO’s ordered a pilot script for a new Watchmen series (along with a series of backup scripts) from Lindelof. HBO previously attempted to bring the superhero deconstruction to the network in 2014, but subsequently abandoned the project.

I don’t need to tell you this is big (not to mention controversial) news. Watchmen already has a (dare I say excellent) silver screen adaption courtesy of Zack Snyder. Though it’d be fascinating to see HBO expand upon the material in ways Snyder’s already slavish feature adaptation couldn’t, it’s unclear why we need another iteration of Moore and Gibbons’ iconic costumed heroes less than a decade after their big budget bow.

Either way, fire up your fan casting (not to mention who should direct this bad boy) in the comments below. Doctor Manhattan, Rorschach, Silk Specter, Nite Owl and the Comedian are all probably coming back, whether we want them to or not.
