SATURDAY NIGHT LIVE Goes To War With AVATAR’s Papyrus Font

We’re right there with you.

Maybe you already know this, but James Cameron is currently hard at work on around eight new Avatar movies, which means we’re about to start seeing its title pop up more and more. Most films dig deep to find or create a typeface that accurately reflects the tone within, but Avatar instead just stuck with the dreaded Papyrus. And Ryan Gosling isn’t having it:

Look, he has a point, and I doubt he’s the only one driven to insanity by this decision, especially since we’re going to be stuck looking at that thing for many years to come.

Aside from the jokes, the high-quality filmmaking on this short should also receive praise. It looks great and totally matches the dramatic tone of what this poor guy is going through. This has been an SNL standard recently, and I'm always surprised how much that crew can accomplish in one week. Also, since it was prerecorded, Gosling never accidentally breaks into laughter (although maybe he should have). On top of that, there’s a good chance it will wake people up to the evils of Papyrus.
