Nicole Kidman To Star In Crime Thriller DESTROYER From Creators Of THE INVITATION
The Invitation is one of the better thrillers to come out in years -- full of truly haunting imagery and adult themes, it's a movie made to scare the shit out of you on both a visceral and spiritual level. The movie was a grand reemergence for director Karyn Kusama, whose Diablo Cody/Megan Fox creature feature Jennifer's Body is still undervalued to this day.
Fresh off that critical success, Kusama is back, and bringing her Invitation writers (Phil Hay and Matt Manfredi) with her for Destroyer. The new thriller is said to follow an LAPD detective who, during her early years as a policewoman, was placed undercover with a cultish gang in the California desert. Years later, when she encounters the gang’s leader, she must dig into her complicated past.
Holy shit -- I'm not joking when I say I hope this is some sort of stealth spin-off from the trio's last project, which also revovled around a nefarious cult.
The big news here (outside of this existing at all) is that Nicole Kidman has signed on to play the detective, marking this as an absolute must-see for just about everyone on the planet. Kidman's been on fire lately, winning Emmys for Big Little Lies and absolutely killing it with her icy persona in Yorgos Lanthimos' latest, The Killing of a Sacred Deer. Here's hoping she can continue this hot streak with one of BMD's favorite working genre teams.
