An Unreasonably Optimistic Idris Elba Says Another DARK TOWER Movie Might Happen

Idris.

In a new interview with Radio Times, Idris Elba claims that talks are "definitely" underway for another Dark Tower movie. The first Dark Tower movie, you'll recall, arrived in theaters earlier this summer and pleased absolutely no one, particularly not Dark Tower fans.

Here's the full quote:

“I think any TV series that is an offshoot from the film can have more time to explore some themes. I’d personally prefer to do another Dark Tower film, exploring some more of the gunslinger – as a film...I don’t know much about where they are with the TV show – but I think there’s definitely talks to try and do another one.”

For a reaction to this news, we go now LIVE to BMD special correspondent Brick Tamland:

Radio Times points out that The Dark Tower made over $110M worldwide during its run this summer, a not insignificant figure compared to the film's (alleged) $60M production budget. Trouble with that, of course, is that films generally need to earn double their production budget in order to turn a profit (note: this rule-of-thumb does not account for a film's marketing budget, which in this case must have involved dozens - perhaps even hundreds - of dollars). See if you can make that math work; I can't.

Is it possible that Sony will bankroll another Dark Tower movie? The responsible answer is, "Why, of course! Anything's possible!", but let's be honest with ourselves here: for a number of reasons, Sony's not gonna make another Dark Tower movie. Maybe they'll roll the dice on this long-gestating TV series, but even that seems absurd at this point. In all likelihood, the Dark Tower property will be kept on ice until further notice.

But, hey, as long as we're talking about it: let's imagine they really did make another Dark Tower movie - who would you like to see direct it? Might as well swing for the fences on this one, folks, because we are in the realm of pure fantasy.
