Brian Michael Bendis Makes The Jump To DC Comics
There have been murmurs about something potentially massive out of all the meetings taking place at DC's Burbank offices. Regardless of what the likes of The Flash and Batman get up to in the coming years, this here is the big one: Brian Michael Bendis, one of Marvel's key creatives and universal architects since 2000, has just signed a multiyear exclusive deal with DC Comics.

To put this in to perspective, here's what Bendis' biblioography looks like for Marvel alone. He:
- Kicked off the Ultimate universe with Ultimate Spider-Man
- Spent five years writing one of the best modern Daredevil comics
- Co-created Jessica Jones
- Co-created Miles Morales
- Made Nick Fury black in the Ultimate comics, leading to Samuel L. Jackson being cast in the Marvel Cinematic Universe
- Wrote Avengers: Disassembled and House of M, which changed the political dynamics of superheroes and mutants and led to Civil War
- Turned Carol Danvers (Captain Marvel) into an A-list Avenger
- Turned Jessica Drew (Spider-Woman) into one Marvel's best characters
- Secret Invasion! Everyone is a Skrull now!
- Norman Osborn as Iron Patriot! The Dark Avengers!
- A whole bunch of X-Men, Iron Man, Guardians of the Galaxy, and every other Marvel character you can think of.
From the major changes to the fabric of the Marvel universe to the small character decisions that take them in new directions for years to come, you can bet Bendis has had a say in most of it for this entire century. Word on the street is he had a say in the Marvel Studios films until 2015 as well, not to mention his work on various Marvel video games and animated series. He's done a few Image comics too, further developing them into TV shows (Powers) and screenplays (Jinx and A.K.A. Goldfish), but in all his years in the comics business, he has never written anything for DC.
Seriously, not once. That's part of what makes this such a big deal. Until earlier this morning, it felt downright unthinkable that a writer responsible for such vast swathes of the Marvel machine would move to the other side of the aisle, but here we are. I for one, can't wait to see what he does.
