Tom Hardy To Reunite With LOCKE Writer/Director For New BBC Charles Dickens Series
As is the five-to-ten-year tradition, the BBC has decided to blow the dust off their old Charles Dickens novels and fire up a new series. This time, they've hired acclaimed Brit writer Stephen Knight (Locke, Dirty Pretty Things) to help update a new generation on the classics.
Knight will adapt Dickens' classic novels over the next few years, beginning with A Christmas Carol. Ridley Scott's producing in association with Tom Hardy's Hardy Son & Baker outfit (no word on whether the superstar will appear in any of the episodes, though one assumes so). Hardy and Knight are frequent collaborators, having worked together on Locke, Taboo and Peaky Blinders, which Knight also created.
The new series is just another meal on Knight's crazy full plate. The scribe is scripting The Girl in the Spider's Web, starring Claire Foy as Lisbeth Salander, and Rio for Luca Guadagnino, starring Benedict Cumberbatch and Jake Gyllenhaal. He's also written and directed Serenity, starring Anne Hathaway and Matthew McConaughey, which is set for a '18 drop. No word on when the BBC is aiming to have this new Dickens series air, but we'll keep you updated as it moves along.
