First Trailer For THE 15:17 TO PARIS Gets You A Seat For Freedom

Clint Eastwood going full rah rah America again isn't gonna do him any favors.

When Clint Eastwood dies, we're going to be losing one of our last (if not the last) links to the old studio system that produced cinematic construction workers like Don Siegel. Many get up in arms about Clint's "one take" approach and rather simplistic visual style, but the fact is, he makes movies in an antiquated fashion we don't see that much anymore.

Still, his politics aren't making it easy to defend his craft as an old school workman, as his continued path of championing "American excellence" is only going to remind many of that time he lectured a fucking open chair in an attempt to mock Barack Obama. The trailer for his latest, The 15:17 To Paris, looks to be selling another rah rah affair that celebrates more "little guys who become big heroes", thwarting a terrorist attack on the titular train.

Take a look:

Yeah, Clint, I dunno, buddy. I love your movies (yes, even some of the recent ones), but this looks like a continued descent into borderline propaganda (that final shot gave me chills - and not in a good way). Based on the non-fiction account The 15:17 to Paris: The True Story of a Terrorist, a Train, and Three American Heroes, the heroic trio is comprised of Anthony Sadler, Oregon National Guardsman Alek Skarlatos, and U.S. Air Force Airman First Class Spencer Stone, who play themselves in the film (which is kind of obvious from the stilted line delivery).

Hopefully, there's a little more to this movie when it releases on February 9th, 2018.
