Ike Barinholtz Wants You To Take An OATH Of Allegiance
After Jordan Peele's delightfully twisted "social horror movie" Get Out became a smash critical and commerical success, it looks like the doors are being busted open for many comedic talents to start helming their own radical combinations of scares and laughs.
The latest is coming from Ike Barinholtz (The League, Neighbors 2), who will make his directorial debut with The Oath - a satirical thriller set in a politically divided America, where citizens have to take a pledge of loyalty. The Oath focuses on a man who has to make it through Thanksgiving without destroying his family. Basically, its every holiday in Trump's America.
Starring in this hellish dystopia the rest of us call "life" will be John Cho (Star Trek), Carrie Brownstein (Portlandia), Tiffany Haddish (Girls Trip), Billy Magnussen (Ingrid Goes West), Meredith Hagner (Search Party), Jon Barinholtz (Superstore), Nora Dunn (The Guilt Trip), and veteran actor Chris Ellis (Murder in the First). That's a pretty solid ensemble for your first feature behind the lens.
Barinholtz is a funny guy, and it seems like even our goofiest artists are going to start bucking against the powers that be right now. Here's hoping he can turn The Oath into something as gleefully subversive and entertaining as Peele did with his horror masterwork.
