Jerrod Carmichael To Play Reggie Hammond In The Safdies’ 48 HRS. Remake

Move over Eddie Murphy.

Yesterday, we brought you the news that the Safdie Bros. were prepping a remake of Walter Hill's 48 Hrs. for Paramount Players.

Now, it seems that the first piece of casting has dropped, as Jerrod Carmichael (who's also co-writing the movie with Josh Safdie and Ronald Bronstein) will be filling the shoes of con man Reggie Hammond. Originally played by Eddie Murphy in Hill's '82 hit, it was a breakout role for an artist many consider to be one of the greatest comedians of all time.

Carmichael is one of comedy's current crop of rising stars, fronting his own show, as well as appearing in Seth Rogen's Neighbors movies. Like Murphy, this could be a gigantic milestone in his career, and it's gonna be cool to watch him craft the character with the Safdie crew.

Now, who should they cast as Jack Cates? Who is this generation's closest approximation to Nick Nolte?
