Hans Zimmer BWAAAM To Score BWAAAAM The Next X-MEN Movie BWAAAM
As pointed out by the good folks over at The Playlist, Evan Peters (the X-Men franchise's current MVP, Quicksilver) recently appeared on the Happy Sad Confused podcast, where the actor may have inadvertently revealed something very interesting about Simon Kinberg's forthcoming X-Men: Dark Phoenix.
Says Peters:
“I think the film is gonna be incredible. Hans Zimmer’s scoring it — I don’t know if I was supposed to say that or not. (Director) Simon (Kinberg) has surrounded himself with incredible people, and Simon knows this world better than anybody, so it was just cool to see him — he’s so happy and in his element in that world, and also being able to direct and guide everybody in this way. I was very happy for him and I think it’s gonna be great."
Heretofore, the X-Men films have been...well, "poorly scored" is probably overstating things, but maybe we can agree on "not memorably scored"? This is something of a running thing with comic book movies (with, yes, a few notable exceptions), so it's heartening to hear that Kinberg went after Zimmer (whose Man Of Steel score is absolutely one of those aforementioned exceptions) for the gig. Our man Zimmer never coasts, so whatever he comes up with should be solid.
From the beginning, we've been skeptical of X-Men: Dark Phoenix. Little by little, though, we're starting to get excited about whatever Kinberg has planned.
Will our hopes be founded? Will we be bitterly disappointed? Only time will tell. We'll find out when X-Men: Dark Phoenix lands in theaters on November 2nd (PS: What're the odds we see a Superbowl teaser for this thing? Discuss).
