Clint Eastwood To Maybe Put Drugs In His Butt For THE MULE

Clint Eastwood may be roughly 117 years old, but that doesn't mean the Hollywood icon is slowing down anytime soon. His 15:17 To Paris is set to hit theaters this month, and it sounds like he might already have his next project already lined up at Warner Bros. 

Based on a New York Times story from 2014, The Mule follows 90-year-old WWII vet Leo Sharp, who became a drug smuggler for Mexico's Sinaloa Cartel. Sharp was eventually arrested in Michigan by the DEA while carrying $3 million in cocaine in his pick-up truck. The twist is that Sharp only got three years of house arrest for the crime, as his lawyer argued he was suffering from dementia while performing the massive job. 

The script was originally written by Nick Schenk (Gran Torino), and had a rewrite done by Dave Holstein (Weeds). But the big story here is that Eastwood's not only in talks to direct the movie, but also star as Sharp, undoing his retirement in front of the camera that began with Clint's reported "final" role in 2012's Trouble With the Curve. 

As someone who still totally loves Eastwood and sees his movies as the last bridge between this new age of cinema and the workmanlike production methods of Old Hollywood icons like Don Siegel (who Eastwood honed his craft under), more movies from the legend can only be viewed as a good thing. Sure, he's hated on by some for his "one take" performance direction, but Eastwood still makes motion pictures that are totally his own; reminiscent of a style we just don't see much of anymore. Here's hoping he signs to The Mule and delivers another great character-driven piece during the twilight of his career.
