Demons Got Him: The VENOM Teaser Is Something Else

The symbiote has a got a hold on our boy Eddie Brock.

Tom Hardy as Eddie Brock - a/k/a the hulking anti-Spidey symbiote known as Venom - seems like pretty great casting on paper, and the crew supporting him (Michelle Williams, Jenny Slate, Riz Ahmed) is enough to perk up any film fan's interest. Now, we've got the first footage from Ruben Fleischer's (Zombieland) film in the form of a teaser and it's, uh, got a different vibe, that's for sure.

Take a look for yourself:

So, a few things: there's no actual look at the symbiote (beyond it being in a containment tank in one scene), Ahmed is obviously up to no good (as he's wearing a black turtleneck and smiling all weird with some scientist bros), and Michelle Williams is simply looking concerned at one point (possibly after Eddie Brock is injured in the glimpsed "accident"?). Also, this Venom's voice-over makes him sound mad emo, like he's on the verge of writing some sad poetry about this sticky black stuff that adheres to his skin, makes him rage out, and be mean to his girlfriend.

There's a serious "Nic Cage in Ghost Rider" aura to the "dark superhero" road the movie seems to be taking (right down to Brock's motorcycle) which will probably not sit well with most (even though I kind of like those movies on a goofy level). Here's hoping the full trailer actually gives us a glimpse of the monster fucking shit up (in all his R-rated glory) whenever it drops.

Venom hits theaters October 5th.
