This month's episode of Trying Times finds Shultz and I taking on a challenge we've been wanting to do for some time: isolation tanks, as seen in the 1980 classic, Altered States. This one concerned us for a number of reasons, chief among them the fact that neither of us were thrilled to lock ourselves inside a giant tank of water with nothing beyond our thoughts to keep us company. We were told we'd hallucinate. We were told we'd find ourselves exploring the weirdest corners of our minds. We were told not to pee in the isolation tanks.
We didn't listen.
Joining us on this bizarre expedition was noted Twitter personality and former Nine Inch Nails art director Rob Sheridan, who not only submitted himself to his own isolation tank experiment, but also went toe-to-toe with us in a discussion touching on everything from dick pics to his truly astounding career to the Hellraiser franchise and back again. Rob was a fantastic guest, and we're so happy he was game for our particular brand of weirdo shenanigans.
Here you go.
Oh, and - as always - be forewarned that the following conversation is very much NSFW:
This was one of our favorite episodes, and the next one's a real doozy: next month, we're telling the tale of our ill-fated attempt to spend 24 hours inside a Wal-Mart. Did we succeed? Did we lose our minds? Are we ever allowed back at that particular Wal-Mart? What will special returning guest Lee Roy Myers (director of the forthcoming John Wick porn parody, John Wank) have to say for himself? You'll need to tune in to find out. Stay tuned for that tenth episode, sometime next month.
In the meantime, thanks for listening! We've got some exciting stuff planned for the next round of episodes (along with some very exciting guests), and we think you'll approve. See ya soon.
