Sebastian Stan & Gore Verbinski Are Gonna BEAT THE REAPER Together
Sebastian Stan is on something of a hot streak lately. The former Gossip Girl player found his robot arm as Bucky Barnes in the MCU (and will soon go into battle with the rest of the crew in Infinity War), and absolutely killed it with a 'stache in last year's I, Tonya.
Now, Stan is teaming up with Gore Verbinski for Beat the Reaper - an adaptation of Josh Bazell's debut bestseller - that sounds like one hell of an action vehicle for both. The script for the picture was penned by Billions creators Brian Koppelman and David Levien, who are also going to serve as EPs on the project.
Beat the Reaper follows a young ER doctor (Stan) whose life is turned upside down when a patient recognizes him from his past life as a mafia hitman, causing former enemies to come calling yet again. So, it's essentially Verbinski and Stan's A History of Violence.
Beat the Reaper has been in development for some time now, as Leonardo DiCaprio was originally supposed to star in the picture, and then it moved to HBO. New Regency will be the banner bringing the film to theaters now.
This is a nice jump for Verbinski, who recently left the Gambit movie (and poor, sad Channing Tatum), and Stan just wrapped Karyn Kusama's follow-up to The Invitation, Destroyer. I don't know about you guys, but watching this duo bring a piece of pure pulp to screens sounds really exciting. Stay tuned.
