New Report May Confirm Who Woody Harrelson’s Playing In VENOM
Final Warning: This post may contain Venom spoilers.
Rumors have swirled around Ruben Fleischer's forthcoming Venom movie from the very beginning, but today we may finally be able to put one of them to bed: according to a new report over at Bleeding Cool, we now know who Woody Harrelson will be playing in Sony's Spider-Man spin-off.
It's who we thought he might be playing:
"Bleeding Cool has been told in a very confirm-y way that not only is Carnage to appear in the upcoming Venom movie but, yes, he will be played by Woody Harrelson."
Let's set aside the questionable term "very confirm-y" (not to be confused with "mildly confirm-ish" or "barely confirm-esque") and take this one at face value: Woody Harrelson playing Carnage in the Venom movie would actually line up with what we know about the film.
For starters, we've known for some time that Harrelson's involvement in the film would be limited, perhaps as limited as a cameo. We also know that Venom's plot would revolve around two notable Spider-Man storylines, one of which (Planet of The Symbiotes) featured Cletus Cassidy, the insane serial killer better known Carnage. If Harrelson is, in fact, playing this character, we're guessing the plan is to have him show up in a limited capacity towards the end of the film, perhaps setting up a Venom sequel.
Of course this should all be taken with a grain of salt ("very confirm-y" or not), but it's admittedly fun to imagine Woody Harrelson - Woody Harrelson, of all people! - stepping into that blood-red symbiote suit. What do you folks think? Into this or not so much? Think Venom will be worth a damn? Give us all of your thoughts in the comments below, and stay tuned for more.
Venom hits theaters on October 5th. You have been warned.
