New SOLO Clip Reveals What Happens When You Don’t Let The Wookiee Win

Donald Glover and Woody Harrelson are gonna walk away with this movie, huh?

Two new clips from Solo: A Star Wars Story landed today, both of which offer interesting callbacks to Star Wars mythology: in the first, you'll see the very first meeting between Han Solo (Alden Ehrenreich) and Lando Calrissian (Donald Glover); in the second, Beckett (Woody Harrelson) shows us what happens when you don't let a Wookiee win at Holochess.

Let's take a look.

So, this first clip is basically an abbreviated version of the footage we were shown at CinemaCon last week (you can read my description of the extended version here). Your mileage may vary, but I'm digging both Glover and Ehrenreich's performances here: each of them seem to be capturing the essence of the iconic actor who originated their roles without quite tipping into a full-blown impersonation. Added bonus: the creature work in this scene looks great, and we're digging the hell out of that moody lighting.

Moving on...

Now, this - this is the business.

This is Woody Harrelson's Beckett (who, delightfully, sounds a lot like Classic Woody Harrelson) kicking Chewbacca's ass in a game of Holochess. Letting a Wookiee lose is something we've always been warned against doing in the Star Wars universe, but apparently Beckett's unfamiliar with that particular rule. It goes about as well as expected.

Each of these clips features an easy, breezy tone which we suspect may get under the skin of certain Star Wars fans, but from where we're standing, this footage looks like a helluva lot of fun. We're dying to see the rest when Solo: A Star Wars Story opens on May 25th.

How 'bout you folks?
