Grab Your Cape And Mustache Wax: Lando Calrissian Could Be Flying Solo

But his adventure isn't Lucasfilm's next STAR WARS story.

Solo: A Star Wars Story is out there in the world already, generating divisive takes that range from "it's awful" to "it's fine" to "I think I liked it?" (BMD now has two dueling reviews, from Charles Bramesco here and Mr. Dave Schilling here). The one constant throughout all these reactions? Donald Glover kicks ass as Young Lando Calrissian.

Well, it seems like Kathleen Kennedy and the folks over at Lucasfilm also know a good thing when they see it in the dailies, as the LF head honcho told Premiere magazine - following Solo's debut at Cannes - that a Lando spin-off is up next:

"We think that the next spin-off will be dedicated to Lando Calrissian. Of course, there are still many stories to tell about Han and Chewbacca, but Lando will be next."

Hell yes. Donald Glover's obviously having something of a moment right now, what with his FX series Atlanta being one of the absolute best shows on TV, and his video for "This Is America" grabbing the zeitgeist by the throat and refusing to let go. Seeing him go from Community and Mystery Team cut up to international cultural phenom has been a treat for longtime fans of the comedian/actor/musician/hunk/outer space legend.

But hold up, it sounds like certain outlets running the above quote didn't bother to check its accuracy with the studio. According to Evan Narcisse over at io9, a Lucasfilm rep told that publication the quote wasn’t translated correctly and that:

"“[Kennedy] said it’s something she’d like to do one day in the future.”

So, that was a roller-coaster. The good news? Lucasfilm and Kennedy definitely see a future in the Donald Glover/Lando biz. The bad news? We may have to wait a little while before we get it.

Either way, Solo hits theaters next Friday (get your tickets to see it at the Alamo Drafthouse here), so we'll have a new adventure in a galaxy far, far away to keep us satiated while we wait to see who Kennedy & Co. decide is getting the next stand-alone.
