We’re Getting a BOBA FETT Movie From The Director of LOGAN

Well, it's happening: we're getting a Boba Fett movie.

The news just dropped via The Hollywood Reporter, who says Logan director James Mangold is signed, sealed and delivered to both write and direct the film. In classic Star Wars tradition, there's nothing further to report at this time - we don't know who'll star in it, what it'll be about, when it'll actually get shot, when it'll come out. We know it's happening and we know James Mangold's gonna be the one to give it to us, and that's about it.

This Boba Fett movie's actually been in the pipeline for some time. You might recall that Fantastic Four director Josh Trank had been handed the keys to the film a few years back, only to be unceremoniously dumped from the project when...uh...well, we're not entirely sure what happened there, but all signs point to it having something to do with Trank's strained relationship with Fox during the making of Fantastic Four (the savage beating Fantastic Four took from critics and audiences probably didn't help matters).

All of that's neither here nor there, though: Mangold's on the case now. He'll be occupied for some time - he's got Ford v. Ferrari in pre-production now, and is still said to be directing 20th Century Fox's highly-anticipated adaptation of Don Winslow's The Force - but we're assuming Boba Fett will come either between or after those. One suspects we'll get clarification on that in the very near future.

As for the idea of a Boba Fett movie: well, your mileage will certainly vary on whether or not that's a good thing. Right now, Star Wars fandom seems split right up the middle, with half the crowd wanting the franchise to move forward into previously-undiscovered corners of that galaxy far, far away...and fans who'd prefer something a bit more familiar (Solo: A Star Wars Story is going to be a great litmus test for this, by the way; you should know which group you fall into by the time the credits roll on that one).
