Scenes From A Marriage: Trailer For Paul Dano’s WILDLIFE Is Incredibly Sad

Paul Dano's directorial debut Wildlife - based on the novel of the same name by Richard Ford - has been getting rave reviews since debuting at Sundance (and recently played equally well at Cannes). Starring Jake Gyllenhaal and Carey Mulligan as a couple whose marriage is falling apart, the strife is viewed through the eyes of their teenage son (Ed Oxenbould), stuck in the badlands of Montana. 

Dano co-wrote the adaptation with Zoe Kazan, and the official synopsis will give you a little clearer picture of what to expect: 

"Fourteen-year-old Joe played by newcomer Ed Oxenbould, is the only child of Jeanette (Mulligan) and Jerry (Jake Gyllenhaal)—a housewife and a golf pro—in a small town in 1960s Montana. Nearby, an uncontrolled forest fire rages close to the Canadian border, and when Jerry loses his job—and his sense of purpose—he decides to join the cause of fighting the fire, leaving his wife and son to fend for themselves. Suddenly forced into the role of an adult, Joe witnesses his mother’s struggle as she tries to keep her head above water.

With precise details and textures of its specific time and place, Wildlife commits to the viewpoint of a teenage boy observing the gradual dissolution of his parents’ marriage. The film premiered at the 2018 Sundance Film Festival, and will also screened as the opening night film in La Semaine de la Critique at the 2018 Cannes Film Festival."

If this picture is half as good as critics have already made it out to be, we're in for one hell of a viewing experience.

Unfortunately, IFC also recognizes that they've got a good thing on their hands, and are positioning it for a more Academy friendly release on October 19th, 2018. You can count on more from us as we get closer to that date.
