Trailer For THE SISTERS BROTHERS Gives Us Goofy Outlaw Brothers
Even if you're a fan of French auteur Jacques Audiard's A Prophet, Rust and Bone, or Dheepan, you'd probably struggle to picture what his drunken buddy Western starring Joaquin Phoenix and John C. Reilly would look like, but the trailer for The Sisters Brothers is thankfully here to fill in those blanks.
Based on the novel by Patrick Dewitt, The Sisters Brothers follows the titular outlaws through their booze and blood-soaked escapades, before they're sent to kill Hermann Kermit Warm (Jake Gyllenhaal), a simple man accused of stealing from the siblings' boss, known only as the Commodore (Rutger Hauer). Supporting these adventures is a dust-covered cast comprised of Riz Ahmed, Carol Kane, and Creed Bratton.
Take a look:
Oh dear Lord. This is my favorite movie ever and I haven't even seen it yet. Audiard no doubt has some graphic violence mixed in with those shenanigans, so I'm interested to see what the full product truly looks like. He's never been an artist committed to a single tone.
The Sisters Brothers is being released by Annapurna later this year. We'll update you when a firm date is revealed.
