Matthew McConaughey Considers Murder-by-Shark in The First SERENITY Trailer

Anne Hathaway wants her husband dead in the weirdest way possible. Will he accept?

Frankly, I didn't even need a Serenity trailer.

You tell me there's a new movie coming out where Anne Hathaway attempts to hire Matthew McConaughey to murder her no-good husband by feeding him to a bunch of sharks, I am there for that movie. Day one, no further information required, ticket sold.

But, hey, they went ahead and made a trailer for us, anyway, so we might as well watch it.

This is the first trailer for Steven Knight's Serenity. If that name sounds familiar, it's probably because you remember Knight as the screenwriter of Locke, Eastern Promises, and Dirty Pretty Things. This dude knows his way around dark, powerful material, in other words, and Serenity certainly looks like a fine addition to Knight's resume.

Here's an official synopsis:

"Baker Dill (Academy Award winner Matthew McConaughey) is a fishing boat captain leading tours off a tranquil, tropical enclave called Plymouth Island. His quiet life is shattered, however, when his ex-wife Karen (Academy Award winner Anne Hathaway) tracks him down with a desperate plea for help. She begs Dill to save her – and their young son – from her new, violent husband (Jason Clarke) by taking him out to sea on a fishing excursion, only to throw him to the sharks and leave him for dead. Karen’s appearance thrusts Dill back into a life he’d tried to forget, and as he struggles between right and wrong, his world is plunged into a new reality that may not be all that it seems."

The BMD staff was kinda caught off-guard by this one - we had no idea a Matthew McConaughey/Anne Hathaway/Murder-by-Shark movie was in the works, and that's on us - but we're very hyped to see where this leads, and intrigued that there seems to be a mind-bending mystery at play here in addition to...y'know, that whole thing about Matthew McConaughey being hired to murder Anne Hathaway's husband by orchestrating a shark attack.

Serenity arrives on October 19th and we will be there for it.
