DARK TOWER TV Series Still Has A Beating Heart Somehow
This will come as a shock to some of you, but they made a Dark Tower movie last year. It came out at the end of July and had real movie stars in it and everything. I feel like I may have even seen it but can’t quite remember. And neither can anyone else.
The whole idea of a Dark Tower movie was actually the opening bit of a universe of entertainment we were going to enjoy across multiple mediums for years to come. When the Dark Tower film failed to get anyone excited, logic dictated that all those plans perished.
But we’re about all out of logic around here lately. So the idea of a Dark Tower television show never quite died. And today brings new confirmation that the whole thing is still out there, threatening to actually happen.
This comes from an interview between Deadline and Amazon Studios Head Jennifer Salke in which she bluntly states about the project:
Those are scripts that I haven’t gotten yet. I’ll be seeing those, that material, in the coming weeks. None of those things are dead. They’re very much alive.
In all honesty, the further away we get from the Dark Tower movie, the more sense this makes as it feels increasingly separate from that film’s failures and more like Amazon’s chance to make some hay out of a grand story that was so ill-served.
Which is to say, I ready to turn a corner from laughing at this to being optimistic about The Dark Tower’s second chance. This could be a “fool me twice” situation, but what the heck. I’m here for it.
