This July, Joe Bob Briggs Opens THE LAST DRIVE-IN

Shudder invites the mad horror movie historian to host a 24-hour, carnage-filled marathon.

When Shudder announced that they were going to be putting on a 24-hour horror movie marathon hosted by MonsterVision's Joe Bob Briggs, I went through the fucking roof. Joe Bob's TNT days meant a great deal to this budding cult movie fan when they aired, and I devoured his early books from the public library on more than one occasion.

Well, it looks like July is going to be when The Last Drive-In opens, as Briggs promises a dusk-to dawn-to dusk again party of some of the best schlock the world has ever seen.

Check out the trailer with the old trash cinema coot here:

The Last Drive-In With Joe Bob Briggs will be comprised of 13 films, curated to suit Joe Bob’s signature brand of disreputable cinema insight and color commentary. Three of the titles already announced are heavy hitters for hardcore fans:

  • Tourist Trap (July 13th) – Five friends are hunted by a creepy killer after stopping to visit a roadside museum in this slasher that counts Stephen King as one of its biggest fans. After car trouble, the doomed group goes to visit an odd attraction filled with eerie mannequins that seem to be alive. Tourist Trap is an off-kilter thriller that will have you rethinking any stops on your next road trip.
  • Sleepaway Camp (July 13th) – Angela Baker, a traumatized and very shy young girl, is sent to summer camp with her cousin. Shortly after her arrival, campers and counselors meet their ends in a series of grisly murders. This bloody “who done it” features a shock ending that stands the test of time.
  • Basket Case (July 14th) – In a tale of revenge with a demented twist, a young man, and his basket-bound, hideously deformed twin brother seek vengeance on the doctors who separated them against their will.

Hell yes. That leaves ten open slots for some real deep cut weirdness (and hopefully Return of the Living Dead, which was always my favorite Ep. of MonsterVision).

The Last Drive-In starts the show at 9 PM EST, Friday, July 13th. You can bet your ass I'm going to be bringing you a ton of coverage from the event and perhaps even a chat with the man himself. Stay tuned.
