Sorry Jack, Chucky’s Back: Don Mancini Announces CHILD’S PLAY TV Series
Back in February, Don Mancini seemed to be running his mouth recklessly about potentially bringing Chucky to the small screen (as he also had an idea for a WW II film starring the Good Guy Doll killer). While the franchise creator was a little cagey regarding details, he still said (to Bloody-Disgusting):
“We plan to use Child’s Play in the title. We want to definitely signal that we are going dark, darker than ever before. It’s going to be very creepy.”
Mancini's concept is reportedly an eight-hour Limited Series event, with Brad Dourif returning to voice Charles Lee Ray. While this seemed just as much like a longshot as the period piece take on Chucky (eight hours? really?), BD also pointed toward an interview that Channel Zero's Nick Antosca gave where he said he was working on a TV project with Mancini. So, with this sort of backup, it was hard not to wonder if they were talking about the same thing.
Well, it seems like Child's Play: The Series is one step closer to becoming a reality, as Mancini tweeted out this image over the weekend:

There are obviously many questions that still need to be answered. What network will Child's Play be on? What story are they going to tell next? Is it going to be an ongoing series or a Limited Event?
Perhaps most pertinent of all is the fact that slashers have been adapted for the small screen before - usually in "name only" anthology format such as Friday the 13th and Freddy's Nightmares - so why does Mancini think Child's Play will be the one that can break the subgenre's rather abysmal quality streak? Here's hoping we get some answers soon, as things seem to be progressing on the Good Guy front.
