Sony’s Next SPIDER-MAN Spin-Off Is a MORBIUS Movie Starring Jared Leto

Hollywood is straight-up trolling you now.

It is with a heavy heart that I must announce that Sony is at it again: according to The Hollywood Reporter, the studio has just announced another Spider-Man spin-off, this one based on noted Webhead adversary Morbius The Living Vampire. It will be directed by Daniel Espinosa (of the noted Venom prequel, Life) and headlined by none other than Thirty Seconds to Mars frontman Jared Leto. Avi Arad will produce, which is further excellent news.

For those unfamiliar with the character, THR offers the following:

"Morbius is Dr. Michael Morbius, a scientist who suffered from a rare blood disease and attempted to cure himself to disastrous results. Instead of being cured, he became afflicted with a condition that was a form of vampirism — the thirst for blood, along with fangs and super strength — and fought Spider-Man. Over time, however, he became a slightly heroic figure in his own right and even headlined his own comic book titles."

If it wasn't already, the gameplan seems fairly clear: Marvel will go off to one corner to make Spider-Man movies under their ongoing deal with Sony, while Sony goes off to another corner to make Spider-Man spin-off movies focused on various Spider-Man villains, which are basically being repackaged as antiheroes (see also: Venom, the currently-postponed Silver and Black movie). If THR's description of Morbius is accurate - and it probably is - Leto will be playing a version of Morbius who's not all that bad.

There's no timeline on when this'll go in front of cameras, nor any further word on why Silver and Black (which, by the way, we heard was being renamed Tri-Border) would be delayed while this project moves forward, but we'll keep you informed as further updates roll in.

In the meantime: how do you feel about a Morbius movie? In particular, how do you feel about this Morbius movie? Sound off in the comments below.
