Adam Devine Joins Danny McBride and John Goodman in HBO’s RIGHTEOUS GEMSTONES

This thing better go to series.

A few weeks ago, we celebrated upon hearing that HBO had ordered a brand-new comedy pilot from Danny McBride, David Gordon Green and Jody Hill (the holy triumvirate responsible for Eastbound & Down and Vice Principals).

Set within the world of televangelism, Righteous Gemstones (or, as Variety's calling it, The Righteous Gemstones) finds McBride's Jesse Gemstone squaring off against his father, Eli Gemstone (John Goodman) as the family scrambles to maintain control over a television empire that's been built on no small amount of deviant behavior.

Today, we learned that Righteous Gemstones has added another impressive name to its ever-expanding cast: according to Variety, Adam Devine (Pitch Perfect, Workaholics) is joinging the show as Eli's youngest son, Kelvin, who the trade goes on describe as the "edgy" member of the Gemstone family. Given the players involved and the creative team behind the script, we're willing to bet that's quite a bit of edginess, indeed.

It's worth pointing out, again, that as of this writing Righteous Gemstones has not been ordered to series; for the time being, this is still just a pilot. Here's hoping HBO decides it's worth getting a full rollout! Keep your fingers crossed and stay tuned for further updates as they roll in.
