Behold The Extremely Fancy Armor of AQUAMAN’S Fisherman King
As you probably already know, we're about a week out from this year's San Diego Comic Con. In just a few short days, we're gonna be inundated with new trailers, posters, movie announcements, clips - you name it. And of the many, many things we're expecting to see at this year's SDCC, few have generated as much hype as the arrival of James Wan's Aquaman trailer.
Back in April, I attended CinemaCon and got a look at a very early rough-cut of that trailer. Even in that half-finished form, I found the footage to be refreshingly weird and interesting (there are dudes riding giant seahorses into battle, for god's sake), and I'm legitimately excited to see the final product.
For a preview of the weirdness to come, please enjoy the following photo of Aquaman's Fisherman King (Djimon Hounsou), as just revealed by the good folks over at Entertainment Weekly:
You're probably wondering what you're looking at. EW has answers:
"In this scene, King Orm (Patrick Wilson, not shown) has gone to the Fisherman King (played by Djimon Hounsou, that guy with the trident — and more on that in a minute) to enlist his help to declare war on the ocean-polluting surface world. There’s also the Fisherman Queen (Natalia Safran) and Princess (Sophia Forrest) on the left, and a royal guard on the right. Though you can’t tell in this shot, all of them have tails instead of legs."
Tails instead of legs, y'all. Talkin' bout Mer-people up in this piece. Mer-people wearing fancy, ornate, gold-plated armor, no less. Mer-people doing battle with other underwater kingdoms, swimming around on their little tails, mixing it up with Jason Momoa's Aquaman. I never thought I'd live to see the day that I'd be genuinely excited about the prospect of an Aquaman movie, but this one has my absolute attention.
Stay tuned for more on Aquaman out of SDCC next week, and be aware that Aquaman hits theaters on December 21st.
