Los Angeles: Win Tickets To DEMON KNIGHT
It is unfortunate that Tales From The Crypt Presents Demon Knight was not a bigger theatrical hit when it was released in 1995, as it was not only one of the few "fun" genre films in those pre-Scream days (not counting highbrow fare like Interview with the Vampire and Mary Shelley's Frankenstein), but also one of the rare instances of the MPAA seemingly looking the other way, giving the film an R despite far more splatter than normally allowed at the time. So it was kind of the perfect movie to see with a big crowd, but alas with a mere $21m total gross (nearly half of that in the first weekend) it didn't even rank as the year's highest grossing movie with the Crypt Keeper, since he popped up in that summer's Casper. Home video is where most of its fans saw it for the first time, which allowed for a second big screen Tales movie the following year: Bordello of Blood. And the less said about that one, the better.
I was lucky enough to catch it in theaters, but that was a long time ago, and have had it on my wishlist of screenings for a while now just so I could relive my fading memories. But I know some never got that chance at all, so I am very excited to play a part in hopefully letting some Demon Knight fans see it on the big screen for the first time! Screamfest will be hosting a special screening of the movie this Sunday, July 15th, at the TCL Chinese in Hollywood, and I'll be moderating the post movie Q&A (and also coming out beforehand to tell you to put your cell phones away). We've wrangled a number of folks who worked on the film for the post-film discussion: director Ernest Dickerson, screenwriters Cyrus Voris and Ethan Reiff, actor Charles Fleischer (who played Wally the thieving postman), and even the Crypt Keeper himself, John Kassir! The Q&A will be after the movie along with some trivia prizes, and as always your ticket includes a beer if you're 21+. You can get tickets HERE, and probably should do that as I suspect it will sell out, but if you want to take your chances I have a pair of tickets to give away!
To win, all you have to do is comment below with your favorite Tales from the Crypt episode from the series' seven season run on HBO. I'll be picking one of you fine folks and letting you know on Saturday, so please include your Twitter handle or some other easy way to contact you directly! And if you can't go but just want to use the opportunity to gush about your favorite Crypt episode, that's fine - just let me know you can't actually attend. Good luck, and hopefully see you there!
