Joel Edgerton Makes Everyone Cry In First Trailer For BOY ERASED

Lucas Hedges is forced to choose between faith, family, or identity in this adaptation based on true events.

After the success of Love, Simon, it’s heartening to see more stories about coming-of-age and coming out making their way to the big screen. Joel Edgerton’s follow-up to The Gift is an adaptation of Garrard Conley’s memoir about Jared (Lucas Hedges), a teenage boy sent to gay conversion therapy after being outed to his strict Baptist parents (Nicole Kidman and Russell Crowe).

Check out the trailer from Focus Features:

Here’s hoping they give out a box of tissues with every ticket, cause this looks like it’s gonna be an emotional rollercoaster. Lucas Hedges has proven he’s one to watch after memorable supporting turns in Lady Bird, Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri, and Manchester by the Sea, which earned him an Oscar nomination. It looks like Kidman, Crowe, and Hedges could all have a big night at the Oscars with this touching portrayal of true events. The movie also stars Edgerton, Emmy and Tony Award winning actress Cherry Jones, and Xavier Dolan.

Boy Erased arrives in theaters on November 2nd.
