Kevin Feige Compares Next AVENGERS Movie To RETURN OF THE JEDI (Because Of Course He Did)
If you're like me, you're probably already tired of hearing both the Russos and Kevin Feige talk about Avengers: Infinity War and its yet to be titled upcoming sequel (which will act as the conclusion of sorts to the MCU as we currently know it). However, as long as they keep gabbing about it, we're going to keep bringing you the nitty gritty details, right down to whether or not animals were murdered in Thanos' finger-snapping galaxy balancing act of genocide (spoiler: they were).
Next up: Kevin Feige compares the final chapter of this Avengers saga to a Star Wars film. This makes sense, seeing how every goof on the planet held Infinity War up to The Empire Strikes Back, so naturally The Return of the Jedi would be coming next (though, mathematically, it should probably be Phantom Menace, or maybe even Attack of the Clones, if we're counting Civil War as an Avengers picture). As The Playlist points out - via an "under the radar" interview with the Toronto Sun - Feige's promising a defined ending with the next superhero melodrama (but hasn't said anything about Ewoks, so some folks can rest easy at night):
"The best stories do come to an end. Return of the Jedi was an ending for a long time and as a 10-year-old in 1983 that carried me through 30 years until there was a sequel. That hasn’t happened before in the superhero genre. A new actor comes in and a new storyline starts right away. We wanted to do it this way because we think that the best stories have a definitive ending to a storyline. That’s certainly what’s going to happen next year with Avengers 4.”
Before we move any further, please allow me a moment to despair about the fact that Feige is only ten years old than I am. Now that we've got that out of the way, the Marvel chief continued on and assured us that certain aspects of the MCU remain a mystery to even him going forward:
"The Universe, the world, many of the characters we’ve introduced will continue onward in unexpected ways, some of which I don’t even know yet. But bringing a definitive conclusion at the 22-film mark, and just over 10 years, seemed like the right thing to do.”
But how do you think the next Avengers installment is going to end? With the MCU not coming to Comic-Con this week, we're going to have to continue speculating wildly. Personally, I'm hoping for a combination funeral/wedding for Steve Rogers/Tony Stark/Pepper Potts/Terrence Howard. Why Terrence Howard you ask? Because that's who Pepper's going to marry while they kick dirt on Captain America and Iron Man's coffins, all while taking a ring from the Hustle & Flow actor (who's not playing Rhodey, mind you, but himself).
