Shudder’s Launching a New CREEPSHOW Anthology Series

Incredibly exciting news via the good folks at Entertainment Weekly:

"The streaming service Shudder has given the green light to a Creepshow TV series inspired by the classic 1982 horror anthology film of the same name, EW can exclusively reveal. Greg Nicotero, the Walking Dead executive producer and makeup effects wizard, is attached to direct, executive-produce, and supervise the show’s creative elements."

If you're somehow unfamiliar with the property, Creepshow began life as a 1982 anthology film directed by the late George Romero and written by The GOAT, Stephen King. An homage to the creature features and horror comics of the 1950's, the film (which, I should note, also features a Disco Dancing Ed Harris) went on to spawn two sequels and a spin-off comic.

Shudder's Creepshow will function much in the same way that HBO's classic Tales From The Crypt series did, with each episode telling a different spooky tale and directed by a different filmmaker (Nicotero's directing the first one, while his KNB EFX Group will handle creature/makeup effects for the entire series). The mind reels at the possibilities: what up-and-coming horror filmmakers will be given their own episode? Might any previous Creepshow segments be updated for a modern audience? Will Stephen King return to write an installment? It's all very exciting.

In between Jordan Peele's Twilight Zone reboot, Charlie Brooker's wildly popular Black Mirror and Shudder's Creepshow, the anthology series seems to be making one helluva comeback, doesn't it? We couldn't be more excited about this development. We've already got plenty of TV shows telling ridiculously epic, multi-season tales. Give us more bite-sized genre programming any day of the week.

Anyway, congratulations to Shudder on this one, and to Greg Nicotero. We fully expect their version of Creepshow to kick ass, and can't wait to learn more. Stay tuned for further updates as they roll in.
