Peter Dinklage is Making a RUMPLESTILTSKIN Movie
According to Variety, Game of Thrones star (and Infinity War MVP, don't @ me) Peter Dinklage has signed on to produce and star in a new version of Rumplestiltskin for Sony. To be written by A Monster Calls scribe Patrick Ness, the project won't be the first item on Dinklage's to-do list once Game of Thrones wraps, but it is apparently a "priority" for the studio.
Rumplestiltskin, as you surely know, tells the tale of a miller who lies to a king, claiming that his daughter has the ability to weave straw into gold. The king - perhaps sensing the miller's story to be complete and unconscionable bullshit - demands that the miller's daughter prove herself capable of said talent, and when she fails to do so, Rumplestiltskin appears. He proposes a deal, offering to spin the king's gold into straw in exchange for the girl's necklace. She agrees, and then the whole thing happens all over again, and then again, with the stakes raising each time. In classic fairy tale fashion, the whole thing ends with one of the characters dying a grisly death.
Despite the fact that this story has been around for literally 4,000 years, Variety says that "plot details are being kept under wraps". Perhaps this means that Dinklage's take will be a modern update of some sort. Maybe it'll be a gritty, grounded retelling of the tale, which is all the rage these days.
Anyway, we're getting a Rumplestiltskin movie starring Peter Dinklage. We'll keep you informed as further updates roll in. Do try and contain your excitement until then.
