Hillary Clinton and Steven Spielberg Join Forces For THE WOMAN’S HOUR

Here's an interesting piece of news: according to The Hollywood Reporter, Steven Spielberg and Hillary Clinton are joining forces for a new project which will adapt Elaine Weiss' critically-acclaimed bestseller, The Woman's Hour: The Great Fight to Win the Vote, for the small screen.

Clinton will executive produce the series for Spielberg's Amblin Television, though at this time it hasn't been decided whether the project will be a TV movie or something a bit more expansive, like a limited series. THR describes the adaptation thusly:

"The book, published in March, follows the activists who led the decades-long fight to grant women the right to vote and sheds light on how close the battle to ratify the 19th Amendment really was. The book celebrates those who changed history and laid the foundation for the civil rights movement that came decades later."

Well, that certainly sounds timely! Here's what Clinton has to say about the project:

"At the heart of democracy lies the ballot box, and Elaine Weiss' unforgettable book tells the story of the female leaders who — in the face of towering economic, racial and political opposition — fought for and won American women's right to vote. Unfolding over six weeks in the summer of 1920, The Woman's Hour is both a page-turning drama and an inspiration for everyone, young and old, male and female, in these perilous times. So much could have gone wrong, but these American women would not take no for an answer: their triumph is our legacy to guard and emulate. I am thrilled to be working with Elaine, Steven and everyone at Amblin Television on bringing this important project to audiences everywhere."

No writer's attached to The Woman's Hour as of this writing, nor is a network currently attached (THR says Amblin will be shopping the project around to both streaming services and premium cable networks). We're curious to see how this one shakes out, so stay tuned for further updates as the roll in.
