It’s Official: WATCHMEN Is Now An HBO Series
With all the chatter surrounding Damon Lindelof's Watchmen adaptation, you might've forgotten that the show wasn't technically a show yet: for the past few months, Lindelof and company have been putting together a pilot, something HBO could look at and give the ol' Thumbs Up or Thumbs Down to.
Today, they made it official: Watchmen is now a series at HBO, with Damon Lindelof producing, Nicole Kassell directing the pilot, and a whole bunch of talented performers making up the cast, including Regina King, Jeremy Irons, Don Johnson, Tim Blake Nelson, Louis Gossett Jr., Yahya Abdul-Mateen II, Adelaide Clemens and Frances Fisher. We have no idea who any of these people are playing (or, indeed, how many original Watchmen characters will appear on the series), but we're excited to find out.
We've been tracking this production for some time now, and a few months ago we even managed to snag some exclusive photos from the Watchmen set. We're curious to see what Lindelof and company have done with the property (reminder: fans should not to expect a straight-up adaptation). Your mileage may vary, of course, but we're feeling open-minded and optimistic about this thing, and have a hunch it could be something special. Fingers crossed!
No release date's been set as of this writing, but we imagine they'll figure that out once they get the rest of the season into production. Stay tuned for more on Watchmen as it becomes available.
